the crowd

So, tried my hand at writing a little something last night. It's been a while but I think it sounds okay. It's a work in progress.

The Crowd
i wanted to put my pen to paper
so i channeled my inner nikki giovanni
but lorraine hansberry wouldn't leave me alone
i tried to drown her out with lauryn hill
but josephine baker's melodies tickled my ears
angela davis is telling me to liberate by mind
but i'm trying to liberate by love for you
i'm trying to tell you i love you
but these women won't leave me alone
i guess it'll never just be me and you
it'll be me, you, lorraine, josephine, angela, and audre
it's getting crowded in our bed
but i can't love you without loving them
i try to read to clear my head
but alice walker and audre lorde are in deep conversation
as langston hughes and james baldwin both hand me books
awww, hell not them too
e. lynn harris is ringing my doorbell
and he bought wanda sykes and sheryl swoops
i turn to the crowd for help on what i'm trying to do
to no avail
they can't help me cause they don't know what i feel
so before this crowd, i take your hand
since no words will do i just kiss my favorite spot
the tip of your nose
and the crowd goes wild
